Reducing Transportation Barriers Partnership

In 2023, Livingston County Cares partnered with the Livingston County Planning Department to address transportation challenges faced by low-income residents.

The Challenge

As a rural county, many individuals lack reliable transportation to access:

  • Healthcare

  • Employment

  • Education

  • Grocery stores and essential services

The Solution

A collaborative program was developed to fund transportation for trips not covered by traditional programs.

  • Launched: 2024

  • Initial Funding: Rochester Area Community Foundation ($2,500)

  • Coordination: Mobility Management (Medical Motor Service)

  • Goal: Ensure access to critical services

Program Impact

  • 2024: 67 trips funded

  • 2025: 175 trips funded

  • Total 2025 spend: $6,706.36

  • Median cost per trip: $38

Trips support

  • Early intervention for children

  • Medical and mental health access

  • Food and grocery needs

  • Housing and crisis situations

Real Community Impact

This program has helped:

  • A mother and newborn escaping domestic violence

  • Families experiencing homelessness

  • Individuals accessing treatment and healthcare

  • Children receiving early intervention services

Community Support

  • $3,000 raised by Geneseo Central Presbyterian Church

  • Additional support from Rotary and community partners

Why It Works

  • No administrative costs charged to grant funds

  • Direct payment to transportation vendors

  • Strong collaboration between agencies and case managers

Looking Ahead

Demand is increasing, and additional funding will expand access to transportation services for more residents in need.
