Livingston County Cares raises funds to aid in disaster relief and recovery from natural disasters. There are many worthy organizations that raise funds for this purpose. How is giving through CARES different?

Cares was formed to help recovery efforts in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina by sending service groups to the Biloxi, Mississippi area. While we continue to offer service opportunities in direct recovery, we have evolved to also serve as an intermediary funder of relief and recovery efforts. Cares uses its own funds and raises additional funds and directs these funds to specific on-the-ground efforts. We only pass funds to agencies that we know will use all of our donation to provide direct relief and/or recovery. We particularly aim to identify local community organizations in a disaster area to support on the rationale that those closest to a disaster best know how to help their community recover. All funds raised by Cares go to aid a community in need. Cares does not subtract any administrative fees for its efforts in identifying where to direct support. Additionally, the agencies receiving support from Cares, know that it is coming from the people of Livingston County, NY.

All annual donors will be acknowledged in our annual report, on the website, in our quarterly e-newsletter and in various other publications.
