Biloxi, Mississippi:
March 15th - 21st, 2026
On-Going Recovery, Humanitarian, & Social Justice Work
Livingston County CARES volunteers have the opportunity to participate in our 43nd trip to Biloxi, Mississippi. These trips began in 2005 in response to Hurricane Katrina, and volunteers from SUNY Geneseo and the wider community have built strong relationships with the local community. This trip will involve work with the Back Bay Mission, a local agency that serves the Biloxi community with emergency assistance, with an overarching focus on improving lives through education and empowerment. Participants on this year’s program will have the opportunity to assist with Back Bay Mission’s housing rehabilitation outreach, food pantry, and meal assistance program. This is an excellent opportunity for cross-generation learning and growth through service to others.

The GKTW trip is a must for any student interested in volunteering with children. At GKTW, every child is dealing with a critical illness, or is a sibling to a child with a critical illness. The week these families spend at GKTW may be their only “normal” family vacation, or a lifelong wish come true. You will never forget the joy we get to witness as volunteers in both the children and their families.
