What is ROC THE DAY?
ROC the Day is a 24-hour, online giving extravaganza powered by United Way of Greater Rochester and the Finger Lakes that takes place annually on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving, also known as Giving Tuesday. ROC the Day gives people in our community an opportunity to support not-for-profit organizations doing great work in the nine-county Greater Rochester area. This year, ROC the Day will take place on December 3 from midnight to 11:59 pm.
Donors (our fabulous ROCstars) can make a real difference by giving to one or multiple organizations to support their philanthropic passions—whether that passion is for animals, arts & culture, education, health, religion, the environment, human services, or general community benefit. To make a gift, visit roctheday.org (a secure online giving platform) on December 3 and browse through our catalog of 500+ not-for-profits. It's an easy, one-stop way to fill your “cart” with causes that matter most to you. Let your friends, family, co-workers and social networks know about the causes you've chosen to support and encourage others to ROC the Day, too! All ROC the Day gifts will help local organizations and individuals in need!
Why donate to
Livingston County CARES?
-
In 2005, SUNY Geneseo and Livingston County responded to the overwhelming destruction of Hurricane Katrina by creating a non-profit public charity (Livingston County CARES) that could contribute money and labor to rebuilding efforts on the Gulf Coast.
-
Since that time, Livingston CARES has sponsored 97 service trips to Mississippi, Florida, Texas, Louisiana, Kentucky, New Jersey, Long Island and Puerto Rico with 1,225 students, 157 faculty/staff/alumni, and 160 community volunteers.
-
In 2025, we will pass the milestone 100th service trip with five service trips, including one to help in the recovery efforts from Hurricane Helene in the Asheville area of North Carolina.
-
In addition to service trips, Livingston CARES works with other agencies to support humanitarian projects such as the Home Away From Home Respite program for families caring for loved ones with dementia and memory issues at the Geneseo Interfaith Center and a new program with Livingston County to reduce transportation barriers for low-income individuals and families needing assistance to access public services.
