'24 Tornado Recovery Work in Kentucky

Group leader comments

Livingston CARES Kentucky team traveled to Madisonville KY on Sunday March 10. We were staying at the First Christian Church in Madisonville, but would be working in Dawson Springs, where tornadoes created a path of destruction through the middle of this community in December of 2021.

We were assigned to help with rebuilding the home of Rhonda and Larry that were sharing this house with extended family who also were displaced by the tornadoes. Rock, with his construction experience, led the team at the house site and we were able to make a huge impact on this project. We removed rotted floor joists, old siding, old windows, deteriorated walls and an old brick fireplace. We then rebuilt the floor joists, installed sub-flooring, rebuilt exterior walls, installed new exterior OSB panels to over half of the house, installed 10 new windows, a new door and covered the exterior with water/vapor barrier to prepare it for new siding to be installed by the team coming in the following week.

We had a great week. All the team members worked hard and well together.

Thanks to our '24 volunteers

Our work with the Fuller Center will be new construction and you may be engaged in framing walls, putting on siding, hanging drywall, putting down flooring, installing windows and trim or painting. I look forward to working with you as you experience the satisfaction of  knowing you helped a family with their new home.
