Livingston County Declares April 2025 as Volunteer Month

​GENESEO, N.Y., Jan. 8, 2025 – The board of supervisors today declared this coming April to be Volunteer Month with April 10, 2025, designated as Volunteer Appreciation Day throughout the county.
 
The proclamation recognizes the contributions of local volunteers who dedicate their time, talents, and resources to strengthen their communities.
 
The declaration coincides with a new volunteer recognition event, The Cares Award, created by Livingston County Cares. The non-profit, humanitarian organization was formed in 2005 through a collaborative effort between Livingston County, SUNY Geneseo, the Livingston County Chamber of Commerce, and the Town and Village of Geneseo. With support from the county’s board of supervisors, the group is calling on residents to nominate individuals or groups whose volunteer work has demonstrated dedication, leadership qualities, and demonstrably benefited the Livingston County community. Livingston County Cares will honor the selected nominees for their volunteer efforts during a reception at The Big Tree Inn in Geneseo on April 10, 2025.
 
"Volunteerism has been an essential part of Livingston County's history, and we are committed to preserving and promoting this tradition of selfless giving," said Board Chair David LeFeber. "By proclaiming April as Volunteer Month, we are encouraging all citizens to enrich the lives of others by engaging in volunteer service.” 
 
President of the Livingston County Cares Board of Directors Dr. Tom Matthews emphasized the importance of encouraging volunteerism in the community, stating, "This proclamation and our Cares Award celebrate our volunteers and reinforce our commitment to volunteerism, humanitarian projects, and disaster recovery efforts locally and beyond our county’s borders.”
 
To submit a Cares Award nomination, visit the Livingston County Cares award nomination form, or the Livingston County Chamber of Commerce in-person at 4653 Millennium Drive, Geneseo, NY 14454, for a printed nomination form.
